As BH Elite Division President, David Kim oversees the strategic direction and boundary pushing direction of Blue Heron’s custom design-build division and client experience. David brings over 32 years of high-level expertise in architecture, construction management, development, team building, and real estate private equity.
Prior to joining Blue Heron’s industry-leading team, David was Vice President of Preconstruction at AECOM Tishman, a firm that has managed the construction of several of the world’s most iconic buildings including the Freedom Tower and the $9.2 BN MGM Mirage CityCenter Las Vegas. He also served as Senior Vice President of Design and Construction at AECOM Capital, where he built the West Region team and led all acquisition design and construction due diligence as the portfolio grew to $4 billion with multifamily residential and hospitality projects, including the Pendry Hotel and Residences by Montage in West Hollywood as Co-GP/Co-Developer.
David specializes in mega and highly complex projects, especially where there are significant interactions with finance and intricate building details. At CityCenter, as First Vice President of Tishman Construction, David was the head of the condo buyer customization and penthouse program for high profile buyers interested in the $2.9BN of condo and condo-hotel, consisting most notably of the Mandarin Oriental (now Waldorf Astoria), Veer Towers, and Vdara. David built his own composite team of architects, construction managers, building engineers, and interior designers. David also had further project global responsibilities as the preconstruction leader for all branded hotels, The Shops at Crystals, and whole ownership condominium throughout the project driving to a baseline cost model.
During the onset of the recession, David led a high-level consulting group within AECOM Tishman as the project executive in Starwood Capital Group’s acquisition of the $5.4BN Corus Bank portfolio of 101 large scale multifamily residential projects, mostly all high rises. He has also taken a world-class building through design and development in Beijing and evaluated mergers and acquisitions in Sao Paolo.
Early in his career, David was an architect builder for high-end residential fit out in Manhattan to begin a career threading through every tier of residential, including HOPE VI mixed-income housing to high-rise luxury condo ground up for dense urban projects.
David holds a master’s degree in real estate development from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a dual bachelor’s degree in architecture and building science with a minor in philosophy from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Urban Land Institute. In addition to his professional achievements, David is certified black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
